Our planet and our lives as we know them are at risk. Climate change is upon us and we all contribute to it. We must do our part to help get things right by reducing environmental impact.
Firstly, we need to clarify two concepts often mistaken for synonyms: climate change and global warming. There is an important difference between them, that it is global warming that causes climate change. As the planet’s temperature rises more than it would naturally, the climate varies. Moreover, it caused by the greenhouse effect, a natural process by which the atmosphere retains some of the Sun’s heat, allowing the Earth to maintain the necessary conditions to host life. Without the greenhouse effect, the average temperature of the planet would be -180 c . The problem is that daily human activities maximize the greenhouse effect, causing the planet’s temperature to increase even more.
Shared some of the thoughts and hope that all of you will lend your support to these initiatives as well.
- Let’s go Paperless – As things stand, we produce, print and then destroy 1,500 tonnes of paper every year. That is crazy! So, what can, and will we do about this? Print only when necessary, and when you do, go for double-sided and black-and-white. I am already over 90% paperless – I challenge you to beat me.
- Say NO to plastic – no more plastic water bottles, cutlery, straws, packaged goods or anything we throw away after using once. There are alternatives. Some countries have made some great progress in replacing plastic bottles with refillable glass jugs of filtered water, and also getting rid of disposable coffee cups, and eliminating plastic cutlery.
- Transportation – Transport emissions, which primarily involve road, rail, air and marine transportation accounted for over 24% of global CO2 emissions in 2016. And it is expected to grow at a faster rate than that from any other sector, posing a major challenge to efforts to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement and other global goals. De-carbonation of the transport sector would create a cleaner, healthier and more affordable future for everyone. Travel less – We all know planes emit a huge amount of carbon – a long-haul flight generates more carbon emissions than the average person in dozens of countries around the world produces in a whole year. We also know that work travel is expensive, tiring, and takes time away from your family and friends.
We think for win-win results but who is losing, that’s our planet earth. I know there are many other things causing a climate change and effecting our planet earth, please share your thoughts and comment below…..
